24: Live Another Day Season 2 needs to happen and here’s why

The 24: Live Another Day finale went out with a bang, a couple deaths and a tragically sad ending. But we think Jack should live on for another day, or 10.

At the end of the latest installment of the 24 franchise, Jack Bauer once again sacrificed himself for those that he loved. His beloved Audrey was dead, his friend the president was losing his memory by the minute, England had been saved from a terrorist and the world had been spared a war between the U.S. and China. What else was there left for Jack to do but give himself up to the Russians to ensure his last friend in the world, Chloe, would be safe?

On the one hand it’s easy to see how the franchise could end with Jack having saved the day and walking off into the sunset to face unknown horrors at the hands of his enemy. On the other hand… seriously, how can it end like that?

We need more Jack

Jack Bauer is a man that does not take any battle lying down. Time and again he’s proved that he’s the man for whatever job the world wants to throw at him. In fact, when it comes to Jack’s work, bigger is always better. How many times has he saved the world now? I’ve lost count, but I’m sure it’s been more than a few and there’s no reason it can’t happen again.

The world — not just the ultra-hyper reality that Jack lives in, but the real one we all live in — needs Jack Bauer. We need a man who defines the word “hero” on our TV screens. He gives us all something to believe in and cheer for and lets us believe that there are good guys out there in the world.

There are so many more days that can be explored

When last we saw Jack, he was being taken away by the Russians. We have no idea what exactly will happen to him, but the possibilities are endless. He doesn’t have to end his days enduring torture. What if his enemies actually need him to save someone important to them? Jack could easily end up being used to lead a vital mission in Moscow. Jack’s captor remarked that he won’t like it there, but what if the reason he won’t like it is because he’ll have yet another hellish day?

As bad as that would be, it’s infinitely better than the thought of Jack just rotting away for the rest of his life. After all the people he’s lost and everything that he’s done to save so many people, the least he deserves is a fighting chance.

What Season 2 could look like

If 24: Live Another Day Season 2 were to happen, there are a lot of different directions it could go. In addition to the idea of following Jack into Moscow for another operation, it could just as easily follow him as he tried to escape. He could get word that maybe Chloe or his family was in danger and send him on a mission to get away and save them. Or we could meet up with Jack after he already escaped and follow him as he took on another hefty task, such as freeing political prisoners in a foreign land or protecting another world leader from terrorists. He could also return back home to the U.S. for any of a multitude of reasons, from saving his friends and family to saving the world. Whatever the job, though, Jack can handle it.

More 24 “definitely” a possibility

The idea of more 24 isn’t out of the realm of possibility, according to showrunners Evan Katz and Manny Coto. “All it really takes is a story that fires us up. That’s what got us excited about doing this season,” Coto told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think what would draw us back if that were ever to happen — and that’s definitely up in the air — would be we or somebody presents an interesting take on Jack, on Jack’s character, and where he is, which would suggest a great season.”

Let’s hope they get an idea that fires them up soon.
