Just a day after Brooks Wheelan announced on Twitter he’d been fired from Saturday Night Live, news has surfaced that fellow newcomers Noël Wells and John Milhiser’s contracts have also not been renewed for the upcoming season.

Aside from these cuts from the show, Rolling Stone is confirming that veteran cast member Nasim Pedrad is leaving the show to pursue a co-starring role on Fox’s developing show Mulaney. Pedrad has been part of the SNL cast now for five seasons. Mulaney is being executive-produced by SNL‘s longtime boss Lorne Michaels, so it’s all in the family.
While it’s normal that the change announcements between seasons most strongly affect the freshman cast members, Saturday Night Live has seen more changes than usual in the past few years. Six cast members departed from the show after the 2012-2013 season including favorites Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader and Seth Meyers, who departed from the show to host Late Night.

According to Deadline, there still may be more changes to come. The fate of Season 39 debut featured player Michael Patrick O’Brien is unclear. He could continue as an on-screen pretense or there’s a chance O’Brien could return to staff writing, which was his position on the show before he joined the cast last season.
Wells and Milhiser have yet to comment on the news, but Wheelan was public about the departure on Twitter yesterday saying, “Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
Wheelan also joked this morning on Twitter, “Whats the protocol on length of departure from SNL and your “Best Of” DVD coming out. So stoked to see mine. Bet it’s super long…”
