Great news for fans of Eric Dane, Noah Wyle and funny old guys solving crimes: TNT has renewed The Last Ship, Falling Skies and Major Crimes after all three shows performed among the top five best basic cable scripted series of the summer.

The Michael Bay-produced drama, The Last Ship, has taken everyone by storm. What seemed like a crazy premise backed by a hot dude and a not-so-loved producer has turned out to be a surprising and enthralling thrill ride. And we’re not just saying that because we’d follow Eric Dane to the end of the world. The show is averaging more than 7.2 million viewers and has become the biggest basic cable show of the summer. Where could Season 2 possibly go? We’ll have to wait through the winter to find out.
Further proof that big action always goes over huge with TNT audiences: Falling Skies. In its fourth season led by Noah Wyle, Falling Skies continues to pack in the viewers, averaging more than five million viewers each week. Together with The Last Ship and the well-loved Rizzoli and Isles, Falling Skies and TNT are dominating the summer schedule. A Season 5 for Falling Skies may mean another year of human vs. alien combat and thus another year of a lack of peace on Earth, but we’re stoked to see it all go down.

We’re not at all surprised to see Major Crimes round out the list of TNT renewals. A spin-off of the Kyra Sedgwick-led The Closer, Major Crimes tackles serious crime with serious humor and a funny, loveable cast. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t miss Mrs. Kevin Bacon, but we’re doing all right with the rest of her team. America seems to agree, too. The drama consistently pulls in a solid seven million viewers each week.
Congrats to TNT for finding themselves on top of the cable empire this summer and congrats to all our favorite actors, writers and showrunners who keep us entertained each and every week.
