Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin remember 30 Rock‘s Elaine Stritch

Elaine Stritch is a Broadway legend, but her most recent role may be the most memorable to many. Stritch played Jack Donaghy’s mother Colleen on 30 Rock, and the show’s Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin remembered the actress on Friday, a day after her death.

“Elaine was a ‘tough old bird,’ but I suspect she may have been a ‘tough old bird’ since birth,” Fey told People. “I loved her voice, her timing, her stories and her natural elegance.”

“One day she was wearing a beautiful butterfly cocktail ring, and when I admired it, she gave it to me on the spot — like an Arab sheik in black pantyhose,” she added. “I feel very lucky to have worked with her as much as I did.”

Alec Baldwin, who played Stritch’s son on the show, took to Twitter to remember his friend.

Stritch’s agent, Joel Dean, explained the cancer that eventually took the actress’s life.

“They took out a good part of her stomach, that was maybe two months ago,” he said. “She said, ‘They got it all, they got it all.’ But it came back quite aggressively.”

Friends, colleagues and fans are remembering Stritch for her years of performing and will always remember her as the tough old bird she was.
