As a British Royal, it’s Prince George’s duty to know everything there is about his country. Being that the prince is still a baby (he turns 1 today), it’s up to his parents to educate him and they did just that by taking their son to London’s Natural History Museum earlier this month.
While at the museum, Prince George took a special liking to the Sensational Butterflies exhibit, and John Stillwell of the Press Association wire service of the U.K. snapped some adorable photos of the babe that were published in People magazine.

Little George had a close encounter with a Blue Morpho butterfly, which is actually native to Central and South America. “He was fascinated to see them fly but a little scared when they got a bit close to him,” Stillwell told People.
The photographer has followed the royal family on their travels and shot the trip to the museum from afar so the trio could enjoy a stress-free day. “As anybody with a toddler would be, they were very proud parents,” Stillwell said. “They were very relaxed and happy to be there, showing him around. They were showing him things, pointing things out. What stands out is how relaxed they are when they are doing something like that. There are no airs and graces.”
The toddler’s parents, the handsome Prince William and ever so stylish Kate Middleton, released a statement to People to mark the prince’s first birthday. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them, both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family,” the statement said.
Though it seems Prince George had a great time frolicking with the butterflies, the royal family has several other birthday soirees planned, including a Peter Rabbit-themed party at his grandparents’ house in Bucklebury, a source told the Daily Mail.
Pippa Middleton, Kate’s sister and George’s aunt, has called the little tyke “amazing” and a “very dear boy” and Sir Michael Dixon, the Director of the Natural History Museum, seemed to be in agreement. “It was delightful to see Prince George’s first experience of the Natural History Museum and I look forward to welcoming them again in the future,” Dixon said, according to People.
