Cameron Diaz went on the defensive for her friend when a host on KIIS 106.5 FM radio station made a snarky remark about Drew Barrymore‘s drug use as a young girl.
Diaz and her Sex Tape costar Jason Segel called in to the Kyle & Jackie O show on Monday, July 21, to talk about their latest film. Everything was going well until host Jackie O said that the little girl, Giselle Eisenberg, who plays Diaz and Segel’s daughter in the movie reminded her of Barrymore when she was small.

Diaz agreed, adding that Eisenberg is “as bright and lively as Drew is,” and she’s just a “sweet little girl.” But the other host, Kyle Sandilands, was too quick to quip another comment that did not sit very well with Diaz.
“Let’s hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years,” Sandilands said. “Because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I’d imagine.”
INTERVIEW: Cameron Diaz gives a very interesting take on monogamy >>
Being Barrymore’s good friend, Diaz was not keen on making fun of her Charlie’s Angels costar and her struggles with alcohol and drug abuse in her young years. The now happily married mom of two famously checked into rehab twice when she was just 14 years old.
Trying to save the interview, Jackie O broke the awkward silence by saying, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” but it was too late. Diaz did not shy away from responding and making her feelings known.

“I’m sure, Kyle, you’ve never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that?” Diaz retorted. “Pretty clean… always did it right? Congratulations.”
Sandilands tried to defend himself by saying he’s friendly with Diaz’s current boyfriend, Benji Madden, but that didn’t work either. At this point the blond actress only wanted out of the conversation and just said, “We have to go now… sorry, they’re wrapping us up.”
