Jon Stewart has never been shy about his disdain for CNN and he has decided it might be a good idea if he took over the network. Last week, it was revealed that 21st Century Fox and Rupert Murdoch had attempted to take over Time Warner, the company that owns CNN — and it gave Stewart hope that CNN may be for sale sometime soon.

21st Century Fox owns Fox News and Stewart said that meant Murdoch would likely sell CNN if he acquired Time Warner — because it competes with his own brand. The Daily Show host addressed his audience and fans on Tuesday night and explained that he would be a much better owner than Murdoch. Although Stewart isn’t exactly hurting for money, he explained why he hopes everyone will chip in.
“That’s a lot of money for anyone. But not a lot of money for everyone,” Stewart said. “Which is why tonight we are starting our Kickstarter campaign to buy CNN.”
Although Murdoch’s $80 billion takeover attempt of Time Warner was denied by the company’s board of directors, Stewart feels that Murdoch is not going to give up that easily.
Since his segment, the site www.LetsBuyCNN.com was launched. According to the Los Angeles Times, the page appears to be a Kickstarter page. But Stewart, and his Comedy Central bosses, aren’t actually asking viewers for any money, despite the fact the goal listed is $10 billion.

Fans can see what incentives they would receive if bidding was actually open, including a “date” (of sorts) with one of the Daily Show correspondents; a 24-hour, two-week search for your car keys (for the low price of $5 million); and a chance to put CNN anchors in a fight to the death — Hunger Games style.
