Comic Con is officially underway today in San Diego, California, but one of its brightest stars will be missing this year. Marvel legend, Stan Lee, has canceled all of his appearances at this year’s event.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 91-year-old comic book veteran will not be at his scheduled Friday and Saturday signings due to illness. The good news is that Lee will be OK after a bit of rest and it’s nothing to be worried about.

Lee’s spokesperson told the entertainment industry paper, “Unfortunately Stan Lee has lost his voice due to laryngitis and is unable to attend this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and has regrettably had to cancel his appearances. Stan is otherwise well and in good health, though he is disappointed to miss the event and wishes everyone a great time.”
Despite his advanced age, Lee has been a fixture at the fanboy event since its inception. The creator was instrumental in making the convention a must-attend event and drew Hollywood’s attention that the Con was a great promotional tool for TV and film. He has missed only a few Comic-Cons over the years, so his absence will definitely be felt by the attendees.

He has fans spanning multiple generations. He’s the co-creator of superheroes like X-Men, the Avengers and Spider-Man and also makes cameo appearances in most of the Marvel films. He will be seen in a fun moment in Guardians of the Galaxy, which opens Aug. 1.
Lee does have several other conventions scheduled later in the year, including San Antonio’s Alamo City Comic Con in September and Stan Lee’s Comikaze event in October in Los Angeles.
