Despite strong objections by Whitney Houston‘s family, the Lifetime channel is reportedly moving forward with the production of a film chronicling the singer’s life.

“Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie despite my objections,” Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week. “No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby [Brown]. In the two years since Whitney’s death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie done by folks who didn’t know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please, please let her rest.”
While Cissy may be disturbed by the content that is presented in the film about her daughter, it’s not entirely true that the people behind the movie did not know Whitney. The picture, which reportedly focuses a large part of the plot around Whitney’s rocky relationship with ex-husband, Bobby Brown, is directed by Angela Bassett, who co-starred with Whitney in 1995’s Waiting to Exhale. In addition, R&B singer Deborah Cox is providing vocals for the film. Cox recorded a duet with Whitney in 2000 titled “Same Script, Different Cast,” according to Rolling Stone.
Cissy has been defensive of how her daughter’s lifestyle has been depicted since her passing in 2012. “All they know is what they hear, bad things,” she told a Fox affiliate of the media coverage of her daughter. “She’s had her ups and downs. Who hasn’t? Let them think and know what they want to say… I just hope they never come and say it to me.”
After Whitney’s death, gossip began to swirl involving her private life, including rumors concerning sex tapes with fellow singer, Ray J.
