Guardians of the Galaxy‘s James Gunn: Bonus clip during credits adds “entire new element to the Marvel universe”

SheKnows sat down with the stars of Guardians of the Galaxy before the film’s opening this week and learned some juicy secrets about the cast of space misfits.

Ever wanted to see a movie about a tough-as-nails space raccoon? What about a sci-fi adventure flick starring the oh-so-easy-to-look-at Chris Pratt? Or maybe you’ve been dying to see Zoe Saldana kick a little more butt. Or perhaps you’ve been imagining a walking, talking, CGI tree with Vin Diesel’s voice? Well, you’re in luck, because Guardians of the Galaxy has all of this and more, and the film is opening this week!

After he steals a mysterious orb, pilot and outlaw Peter Quill (Pratt) is hunted down and thrown into an intergalactic prison. In a bid for freedom, Quill decides to team up with a bunch of alien bandits, including Drax (played by WWE wrestler Dave Bautista), the very green Gamora (Saldana), Rocket, the space raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and the strangely treelike Groot (Diesel), to form an unlikely alliance of space misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. The film follows the Guardians as they try to protect the universe whilst being hunted by the evil Ronan (played by Lee Pace of Pushing Daisies).

SheKnows sat down with the film’s cast to get the scoop on Saldana’s green makeup, Pratt’s secret superhero name and to learn why audiences should stick around after the credits roll.

Saldana plays Gamora, a green-skinned alien whose fierce fighting techniques have earned her the title of “the deadliest woman in the whole galaxy.”According to Saldana, however, she was memorable for more than just her fighting skills on set.

“I wasn’t allowed to touch anybody,” said Saldana of her green-painted skin. “Everyone knew what was mine, and they would not touch it.”

Pratt, who nearly broke the internet with last year’s super sexy buffed-up-for-space selfie, admitted there were other actors who were in top contention for the role of Peter Quill, but that director James Gunn felt Pratt just spoke to him in his way.

We think it might have had something to do with Pratt’s naturally self-effacing humor that so nicely complements the character’s oh-so-funny semi-awkwardness.

For example, his character selects “Star-Lord” as his nickname in the film only to find that no one seems very impressed by the name. When we asked Pratt what he would choose as his own superhero name, he told us he’d have to think about it a little, but, “It would probably be something like Turd Man,” he said.

That’s right. Pratt just selected Turd Man as his personal superhero name.

“Turd Man,” reiterated Pratt. “He can crap your pants!”

With such an engaging cast, the actors must have had fun working on the film, which should translate to a fun time for audiences. But, according to director James Gunn, the film itself isn’t the only thing fans will enjoy; Marvel has hidden an Easter egg at the end of the film just for general audiences.

“I can tell you that there is going to be something at the end of the credits,” Gunn said. “We didn’t put the tag in for the press screening, and we’re not going to put it in for the premieres either. It’s going to be there for the first time when audiences go to see the movie on August 1.”

What the Easter egg will be is being kept secret, but fortunately, fans won’t have too long to wait. Guardians of the Galaxy opens on Aug. 1.
