VIDEO: Morgan Freeman inhales helium and it’s amazing

Morgan Freeman, who is known for his iconic voice, is taking it up a notch.

During an interview on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the host surprised Freeman with helium balloons as a bonus for the segment.

“…I do love your voice, and everyone loves your voice, but I was wondering what your voice would sound like if you were on helium,” Jimmy Fallon proposed.

Freeman reluctantly agreed to inhale some helium before answering Fallon’s interview questions.

And we mean it when we say reluctantly. There are some begrudgingly long, sideways glances from Freeman before the actor consents to the task, after some peer pressure, and accepts his red balloon.

“I really shouldn’t be doing this,” Freeman tells Fallon after his first puff out of the balloon. Then, after the second inhale, “It’s very undignified.”

But it’s also fantastically hilarious. Not even Fallon could keep it together when Freeman’s baby voice came out.

Freeman, who was on the show to talk about his new film Lucy, ended up doing more talking about his reluctance to participate in the funny stunt. We think the actor was doing what he does best though and playing up his hesitation.

Turns out, Fallon got the idea from a promo Freeman did previously for the documentary series Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman. In the video, Freeman inhales helium out of a red balloon, just like the ones Fallon found, while talking about “unusual situations” in science.

At the end of The Tonight Show segment, Fallon thanks Freeman for being on the show and says, of course, he’d love to have him back sometime. Freeman inhales a gulp of helium and says in his baby voice, “I’m never coming back.”
