If you were craving an all-girl team-up for summer 2014, then your wish is Jessie J‘s command. Weeks after announcing an all-star collabo between herself, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, the tune has leaked onto the internet a day before its official release, and it’s one in-your-face banger.
Music review: Jessie J “Thunder” >>
“Bang Bang” is a loud, horn-filled, boisterous affair that recalls a hint of old-school flair and plenty of sass as the trio proclaim how next-level they really are. Produced by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Ilya (the same guys behind Grande’s summer anthem “Problem,”) “Bang Bang” kicks off just seconds in with Jessie J as the British pop star pledges how superior she is compared to other girls.
“Bang bang into the room/ I know you want it/ Bang bang all over you/ I’ll let you have it,” Jessie chants during the enormous hook, which oddly reminds us of something you’d hear during an installment of High School Musical. While Grande balances out Jessie J’s very loud vocals and throws around a few not so subtle lines that would raise eyebrows, our favorite Harajuku Barbie adds her recognizable spin on the track with her signature speed-fire bars over a fast-clap beat. Time to learn those lyrics!
