Meryl Steep has played many roles on stage and on-screen, but somehow playing the Witch in Into the Woods delights us much more than her portrayal of the conniving villainess mother in last year’s August: Osage County.
Meryl Streep: “I was too ugly to be an actress” >>
We love to see the Hope Springs actress having fun and, from the looks of this trailer, she seems to be having a blast.
“Don’t go into the wood!” Streep snarls as the Witch, really speaking to anyone who’ll listen. In fact, the whole story revolves around this magical matron conspiring to teach misguided youngsters powerful life lessons by using all the fairy tale characters we know and love.
One character we’re super excited about is the Wolf, played by Johnny Depp. In this take on the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is still sexy at 51 years old. Getting cast as the big, bad canine is intriguing in a way we’ve never seen from Depp before.
Johnny Depp’s romance hasn’t affected Amber Heard’s career >>
The captivating Chris Pine joins the cast, playing Cinderella’s Prince and looks incredibly dashing. Who’s his Cinderella? The adorable Anna Kendrick plays the girl with the evil stepsisters.
Christine Baranski, from The Good Wife, plays Cinderella’s stepmother. With the last season of the TV show coming this fall, we’re pretty excited to see Baranski on the big screen. We love it when movie and TV actors cross mediums.
Some other fabulous fairy tale characters that appear in the movie are Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) from Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy), the Baker (James Corden) and the Baker’s Wife (Emily Blunt).
