Jon Voight has always been one to speak his mind, so it’s not surprising that he has spoken out about the Israel-Gaza conflict, a topic that has been avoided by most celebs because of its highly sensitive nature.
The actor has written an open letter about the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, and he’s done so because he’s upset by the message that Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem have sent out by signing a letter accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, the Los Angeles Times reports.

“My name is Jon Voight and I am more than angry, I am heartsick that people like Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem could incite anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage they have caused,” the actor began.
Voight went on to say that Cruz, Bardem and others were “obviously ignorant of the whole story of Israel’s birth” in an essay written for The Hollywood Reporter.
This is a cause close to the Ray Donovan actor’s heart, and he went on to detail Israel’s past struggles and shamed those who have signed the letter published on July 28.
“You have been able to become famous and have all your monetary gains because you are in a democratic country: America,” Voight wrote. “Do you think you would have been able to accomplish this in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, et cetera? You had a great responsibility to use your celebrity for good. Instead, you have defamed the only democratic country of goodwill in the Middle East: Israel.”

Voight is not the only celebrity to be unimpressed by the letter; Jackie Mason has also blasted Cruz and Bardem during a radio program on Sunday.
“Can you imagine how furious these celebrities would be if we were being attacked by thousands of missiles, killing innocent people hundreds of times. Would anybody question our military for taking every conceivable action to put a stop to it?” Mason told Fox 411.
“Only in the case of Israel are the terrorists treated as victims and Israel the aggressor,” he added.

Zayn Malik of One Direction voiced his concern for the Palestinians when he tweeted, “#FreePalestine” last Sunday. It is believed that Rihanna also tweeted the same message, but quickly deleted it after coming under fire from Twitter users, the New York Daily News reports.

Madonna has also shared her views on global affairs and called for peace. The singer took to Instagram to share a picture of herself standing with two men, one with the Jewish Star of David on his torso, the other the crescent moon symbol associated with Islam.

Pop princess Selena Gomez posted a picture of the words “It’s all about humanity.” She captioned the picture with a heartfelt note, saying, “Please pray for those families and babies. Please always remember what’s important in life. It’s not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love. Be that change.”
