Who makes more: The cast of The Big Bang Theory or Modern Family?

Guys, guys, guys. We know you were really concerned about the fate of the Big Bang Theory‘s cast and their ability to pay their bills and keep a roof over their heads, but they’re doing just fine. As a matter of fact, with their latest contract negotiations, they’re making enough money per episode to buy three nice houses in the Midwest… or one decent condo in Los Angeles.

Yikes! Production stalled while the gang worked out salary disputes >>

Phew! We were really worried they’d show up at the studio looking for a place to stay and ain’t nobody got time for that.

So, just how much money are leads Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco making? The talented trio just secured a whopping $1 million per episode. That’s three times what they made last year ($325,000 per episode). Just to break your heart a little more: If you’re making the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, you’d need to work 137,931 hours (or a total of 40 hours a week for 66 years with no vacations) to make what the cast is making for one 30-minute television spot.

7 Shows you may not know are super popular in other countries >>

Are they worth it? That’s debatable. From all the various award shows, The Big Bang Theory and its team of writers, producers, actors, etc. have collected 34 trophies. That’s impressive, right? But what about a show like Modern Family, another show that had a cast recently go on hiatus during salary disputes? That family comedy has raked in 79 various wins. Modern Family‘s last reported cast salary? $175,000 per episode.

One interesting thing to keep in mind: In 2002, NBC bumped the cast of Friends‘ salaries to $1 million per episode in its final season. It’s not that we want The Big Bang Theory to come to an end. We love those sexy nerds. We have to wonder, though: Just how long can the network float that kind of money to just one show? And what other shows and actors out there deserve more money? Modern Family continues to make us laugh while pushing social and entertainment boundaries. Why aren’t they worth that same kind of money?

Congratulations to Cuoco, Galecki and Parsons. Expect your invites to our birthday party to come late next month and, yes, we want presents.
