In case you missed the announcement earlier this year: Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl are coming to a TV near you. The gang teamed up with HBO to document the making of their newest album and explore the history of some of the most legendary studios. Now the rock doc, Sonic Highways, is coming to television. Of course, we’re excited.
Eep! Have you seen the first trailer for their series? >>
It’s our firm belief that anything Grohl touches is golden and this new documentary series is no different. Marking the band’s 20th anniversary, Sonic Highways follows Foo Fighters across the country as they record songs for their upcoming album of the same name, which Grohl refers to as the “most ambitious album” of their career. Each episode will center around a new studio, a different, brand-new song and showcase interviews and stories from musicians who have previously recorded in those studios and cities. Along the way, Foo Fighters will visit Austin, Seattle, Los Angeles and more. Throughout the series, fans and music lovers will hear stories and see collaborations with some of the biggest names in music, like members of Heart, Kiss and the Eagles.
Dave Grohl aims for rock god status >>
Foo Fighters’ official twitter teased a little more info. According to their account, we should expect the album and documentary to feel like “a love letter to the history of American music.” And, if producer Butch Vig’s opinion means anything to you, you have even more reason to be excited. After spending three weeks editing the upcoming album, Vig tweeted out his love for the record.
We are officially done with the new Foo Fighters album.
23 straight days mixing!
IT'S EPIC!!!— Butch Vig (@butchvig) July 30, 2014
The best/worst news yet? HBO has set the Sonic Highways premiere date as Oct. 17 at 11/10c. While we’re glad to have an official date to count down to, those two months are bound to pass at a snail’s pace. Hopefully, Grohl will get antsy and “leak” something sooner. Fingers crossed!
