Sherri Shepherd’s surrogate gives birth, but she’s a no-show

Sherri Shepherd‘s little family has expanded: Her surrogate has reportedly given birth.

The former The View panelist’s surrogate gave birth to a baby boy in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, according to TMZ. However, the role Shepherd will be playing in her son’s life is still unclear. According to the site, she was not present at the birth of her son, but her ex-husband Lamar Sally was.

When People magazine contacted her, she apparently would not comment about the birth.

So, why is Shepherd’s role in the baby boy’s life still unclear?

It has not been an easy few months for the Less Than Perfect star, and not only has she lost her job, but she’s also lost her husband, Sally. The pair split earlier this year after just three years of marriage, and the breakup has created an ugly custody battle.

Shepherd has no genetic connection with the infant, who was conceived through IVF with an egg donor and Sally’s sperm. Sally has asked for custody of the baby, but the former couple has yet to decide on an agreement. Apparently, Shepherd believes her estranged husband defrauded her when she signed the surrogate documents and that it was always his intention to use her for child support and raise their son alone.

The odds are not in Shepherd’s favor either because she previously had a nasty custody battle with her ex-husband Jeff Tarpley, who accused her of being a negligent mother to their 9-year-old son, Jeffrey.

We hope the star will be able to play a role in the tiny tot’s life, but at least she does have something good going for her. She apparently has secured a role as the wicked stepmother in Broadway’s Cinderella starting Sept. 9, the same production that has cast Keke Palmer in the title role.
