It doesn’t happen for another few weeks, but it’s safe to say that the 2014 Video Music Awards will belong to Beyoncé. On Thursday, August 7, MTV announced that the pop titan will perform at this year’s event and receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
Beyoncé leads the 2014 VMAs nomination pack >>
Previous Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipients include Madonna, Britney Spears, the Beastie Boys and Justin Timberlake. Just last year, JT offered a killer 15-minute medley performance of some of his biggest hits, including a short onstage reunion between his fellow *NSYNC brothers. The annual ceremony will take place at the Forum in Inglewood, California, on Aug. 24.
Not only will Bey hit the podium to receive the iconic award, but she’ll likely make several appearances on stage since she’s the night’s most-nominated artist in a total of eight categories, including Best Female Video, Best Choreography and Video of the Year. Beyoncé joins a growing list of performers for the big night, including Ariana Grande, Maroon 5 and Usher.
Despite the good news for Bey’s professional career, her personal life appears to be spiraling out of control. Even though she and hubby Jay Z just wrapped up the U.S. leg of their On the Run tour, the divorce rumors seem to get louder and louder as the days pass on.
