The couple were married Saturday, surrounded by family and friends in gorgeous Venice, Italy. There undoubtedly was no shortage of tequila.
Reality started to set in that Gorgeous George’s intentions for Alamuddin were indeed true when, as People magazine reported in early August, a notice was publicly posted outside Chelsea Old Town Hall in London stating the couple’s plans to tie the knot. The town hall is also reportedly where the duo received their marriage license.
Clooney and Alamuddin, who is a human rights lawyer, were first spotted together last fall. Engagement rumors began flying this past spring when Alamuddin was spotted wearing a gorgeous engagement ring while out to dinner with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber. News of the pending nuptials solidified in April, when a source close to the couple confirmed the news to People. “George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key, but they also aren’t really trying to hide this, it doesn’t seem,” the source said. “I think it’s like they want the people they love to know that it is real, that they plan on being together forever.”
The couple celebrated their engagement by throwing a huge A-lister-filled bash in May at Gerber’s restaurant, Cafe Habana in Malibu. The party was complete with a private karaoke room, where revelers were treated to a rendition of “Wonderwall” by Oasis sung by Bono of U2.
Clooney has already proved that he is fiercely protective of his bride and their relationship. He ripped the Daily Mail in July and refused to accept the tabloid’s apology after it printed a false story claiming that Alamuddin’s mother had rejected their relationship for religious reasons.
