American Horror Story is no stranger to a star-studded cast, and the fourth season is shaping up to be no exception.
Songstress Patti LaBelle is set to join the series as returning regular Gabourey Sidibe’s mother. Supposedly, there are no plans to have her sing on the show, but come on, Ryan Murphy! Last season we were taunted with Patti LuPone’s wonderfully imposing presence and Stevie Nicks, waiting for either of them to burst into song, and that wish never came true. It was especially agonizing considering that Stevie Nicks even appeared as herself.
The horror! Is Jessica Lange leaving American Horror Story? >>
It happens all the time on Glee. When hiring some of the world’s most talented singers, at least throw in a trip to a karaoke bar for the viewers at home.
After the amazing success of last season’s Coven, culminating in multiple Emmy nominations, AHS will be shifting away from the present-day New Orleans setting to travel back in time to Jupiter, Florida, in the 1950s in a move similar to the second season’s trip back in time for Asylum (which was, in our opinion, the most terrifying season of AHS yet). The fourth season will explore a freak show set in the last days of the old-time carnival circuit, helmed by AHS veteran Jessica Lange as an expatriate from Germany.

LaBelle’s role will reportedly involve close ties with this season’s big monster, frighteningly named Twisty the clown. (It just had to be clowns. Thanks in advance for those nightmares.) She’ll be joining familiar faces Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Evan Peters, all of whom have appeared on every season of AHS since the first, as well as newcomers to Coven Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett, returning from their respective stints as the bloodthirsty racist Madame LaLaurie and voodoo queen Marie Laveau.

A two-headed woman, a murdering serial-killer clown, and now Patti LaBelle? This season of AHS is shaping up to outdo Coven when it comes to horror. We can’t wait.
