James Franco took to Instagram to share the first look at himself as gay activist Michael Glatze for his upcoming biopic Michael.

The film tells the story of Glatze, who went from being a gay activist and an editor for Young Gay America magazine to rejecting the lifestyle, marrying a woman and becoming an anti-gay Christian pastor. The film also stars openly gay actor Zachary Quinto, who will play Glatze’s ex-boyfriend, and Emma Roberts, who will star as Glatze’s female love interest.

Franco captioned the photo, “New Film: ‘MICHAEL’ Gay Activist Mode.”
Since it’s clear this photo was taken of a camera screen, meaning Michael is filming, this could explain Franco’s recent decision to rock the blond, boy band look he shared just yesterday.
Franco has been vocal about his support for the LGBT community. On his Instagram page, his description says, “LOVE TO “THE TWEET GENERATION” – if you’re racist, sexist, or homophobic, get the f*** out of here!”

“GAWKER – always getting the cutting edge, homophobic scoop!!! Go see CHILD OF GOD in theaters and see me direct my live-in boyfriend, SCOTT HAZE!!! Love you SCOTT!!!!” the actor said in the post.

Franco also told The Daily Beast last year in an interview, “Bring on the gay jokes! Because these aren’t insults at all.” Franco concluded by saying he wishes he were gay and that he isn’t offended by the suggestion at all.
Michael is scheduled to be released in 2015.
