Really, people? As a nation mourns the sad and tragic loss of one of its treasures, Robin Williams, some people have to prove how much they suck by making it worse. Who are these people and what motivates them to say such cruel, insensitive things when someone has just lost a loved one?

Zelda Williams used social media to share a touching farewell and images of her father, Robin Williams — who committed suicide after a long battle with depression and addiction. On Tuesday night, Robin Williams‘ daughter tweeted, “Please report @PimpStory @MrGoosebuster. I’m shaking. I can’t. Please. Twitter requires a link and I won’t open it. Don’t either. Please.” A commenter of a Gawker article announcing Williams’ departure from social media explained that those two accounts posted images that were supposedly of Robin Williams in the morgue (disgusting!), but they were fake. This young woman has had her dad tragically yanked from her life, and while the outpouring of love and kindness has been astounding, she now has to deal with lunatics who resort to bottom-of-the-barrel, vile tactics to get attention. Were these people raised by wolves? Why do some people suck so bad?

At a press conference on Tuesday, Marin County’s Assistant Chief Coroner Lt. Keith Boyd gave a public — that was still reeling with shock and sadness in the wake of Williams’ death — way too many details about how the beloved actor passed. References to belts, failed wrist-slashing attempts and rigor mortis (seriously? Did we really need to know all of that?) caused an understandable uproar on social media. Fans, colleagues and loved ones of Williams agreed — way too much, way too soon.

Fox New host Shepard “Shep” Smith, in his vintage melodramatic way, called Williams a coward for committing suicide. “Something inside you is so horrible or you’re such a coward or whatever the reason that you decide that you have to end it. Robin Williams, at 63, did that today.” Wow. Judge much? Smith later issued a public apology, saying, “To the core of my being, I regret it. It just came out of my mouth. And I’m so sorry. And to anyone and their families who see that, I am sorry.” This should go down in history as one of the most epic blunders made by a television news host. Smith not only insulted those who were grieving Williams’ passing, but he insulted every American who is suffering from depression or has lost a loved one to depression.

Note to sucky people: Please let the public mourn the loss of a beloved personality for at least a week or two before you start in with your poorly thought out commentary, lack of filter, insensitivity and — in the case of the people commenting on Zelda Williams’ Twitter account — lunacy.
