NBC announced today that David Gregory will be leaving the network after 20 years. The Meet the Press host will be replaced by NBC News White House correspondent, Chuck Todd.

NBC News president, Deborah Turness, commented on Gregory’s departure in a statement, “Under his [Gregory’s] leadership the show has had a string of exclusives, and David has shown a remarkable gift for holding leaders to account and getting answers on issues that matter to our audience. He is an outstanding journalist whose sharp intellect and quick sense of humor have made him a pleasure to work with. I know you all join me in expressing our deepest gratitude and in wishing him the very best.”
Gregory has been the host of Meet the Press for the past six years. Prior to his position on the talk show, Gregory worked in various anchoring positions with MSNBC.

Turness also took the opportunity to announce in the statement that Todd would be taking over the hosting position on Meet the Press beginning Sept. 7.

Turness also added that Todd will continue as NBC News’ political director. The show is expected to announce additional new names in the coming days, according to E! Online.
Meet the Press first aired in 1947 and is America’s longest-running television program. The show has been hosted by 11 moderators to date. Gregory took over for legendary journalist, Tim Russett, in 2008.
No word yet on what Gregory’s plans are following the completion of his run as host on Meet the Press.
