Beyoncé to perform at VMAs, receive Video Vanguard Award >>
Beyoncé has selected a handful of schools in five east coast cities and plans to donate school supplies to around 2,000 students this fall, E! News reports.
The schools — located in Baltimore; Charlotte, North Carolina; New York City; Washington, D.C. and Newark, New Jersey — belong to seriously underfunded districts and are attended by a lot of at-risk kids. The “Drunk In Love” singer’s charity, #BeyGOOD, plans to hand out backpacks, pencils, notebooks, folders and other back-to-school swag at “pep rallies for good” at the schools.
Beyoncé has also created a special edition #BeyGOOD backpack in partnership with State Bags. They’re for sale online, and for every one purchased, State will donate a bag to a kid in need through its own program to help out at-risk students.
Want your own ‘Yoncé back-to-school goods? She’s got that handled, too. Beyoncé’s online store includes a back-to-school bundle with notebooks, pencils, a T-shirt and a tote bag, all flawlessly Bey-themed.

“Our #BeyGOODxSTATE GIVEBACKPACK Program and inspirational bag drop events go beyond a simple material donation by providing children in underfunded communities the role models and motivation to beat the odds,” Scot Tatelman, State Bags co-founder, said in a statement. “Partnering with Beyoncé’s #BeyGOOD movement not only creates a platform for children to receive backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming year, but also drives them to reach their full potential.”
In its first year, #BeyGOOD has reached more than 2 million people through upwards of two dozen projects, including food drives in impoverished cities, Make-A-Wish events and Beyoncé’s “Ban Bossy” campaign, which encourages girls to step up and “be the boss.”
