Jennifer Hudson’s half-brother is arrested in stabbing attack

Unfortunately, Jennifer Hudson has had more than her share of family heartbreak, and it doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon. The “Giving Myself” singer’s family has once again been plagued by violence and her half-brother Stephen Angelo Simpson has been arrested.

Simpson was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly repeatedly stabbing a man in the face overnight on Monday, according to Van Buren County, Michigan’s local CBS affiliate WWMT.

The frenzied attack took place at the apartment of Simpson’s estranged wife, the Maple Glenn Apartments on Baseline Road in South Haven Charter Township, the site reports. The victim of the attack is believed to be Simpson’s wife’s current boyfriend, who is identified as Charlie.

Torrey Hunt, a neighbor, said the couple ran to his home for help around 3 a.m. “He said someone knocked on the door, he thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up,” Hunt told WWMT. “I open the door and see blood everywhere. He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff.”

Hudson has made no statement during her half-brother’s arrest, but it is believed he has a history of domestic violence and is currently on probation.

The Oscar and Grammy winner works hard at giving back to the community after losing three of her family members to violence just six years ago. Hudson, along with her sister Julia, created a charity called the Julian D. King Gift Foundation after she lost her mother Darnell Donerson, her brother Jason Hudson and her 7-year-old nephew Julian King to a brutal murder at the hands of her sister Julia’s former husband William Balfour.

In July 2012, Balfour was sentenced to three life sentences without parole.
