Is Jennifer Lawrence in talks to star in Tarantino’s new film?

Jennifer Lawrence pretty much rules Hollywood right now. She’s an awards darling, the star of a massively successful franchise and at the top of our “Celebrities we wish we were friends with” list — what could she possibly be missing?

How about a role in Quentin Tarantino‘s newest film The Hateful Eight?

That’s right, JLaw fans, The Hunger Games actress may be headed to the Wild West. The wild, Wild West, as early reports have labeled Tarantino’s script another wildly profane and violent jaunt into the outlaw-plagued American frontier.

The news that Tarantino is continuing with the film may come as a surprise to those who were following the film’s earlier controversy, in which the filmmaker claimed he was scrapping the whole thing after Gawker published a leaked copy of the first draft. It seems, however, that Tarantino doubled down on the script instead, even holding a LACMA benefit reading of The Hateful Eight this past April.

The staged reading took place at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel in downtown LA and clocked in at 3 1/2 hours. The event featured familiar Tarantino collaborators Samuel L. Jackson, James Remar and Amber Tamblyn (among others) reading, with Tarantino himself reading stage directions.

The script reportedly centers on a pair of old bounty hunters who get stranded, along with a small group of stagecoach passengers, at a seemingly abandoned haberdashery (men’s clothing shop) during a blizzard in post-Civil War Wyoming. An Englishman, a Frenchman, a Confederate general and a female prisoner round out the unlikely bunch seeking shelter from the storm.

And, in true Tarantino fashion, none of the characters likes one another very much.

Although there isn’t any official word on which character Lawrence might play, the staged-reading draft only featured two prominent female roles: prisoner Daisy Domergue and Six Horse Judy. Not much is yet known about either character, but Daisy is the more prominent role, and we can definitely see Lawrence kicking some bounty-hunter butt as a rough-and-tumble prisoner with a past.

Of course, Tarantino is still revising the script, meaning Lawrence could land an as-yet unwritten role as well. Whatever the role, we’re definitely on board with a Tarantino/Lawrence collaboration.

The Hateful Eight teaser trailer will be running before Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, but you can get a sneak peak at leaked footage here.
