Katie Holmes reportedly bought a home in California in secret recently, leaving her New York City life behind to be closer to work.
The actress made the real estate deal under a confidentiality agreement that threatened any leakers with a $1 million penalty, TMZ reported. Holmes paid up a hefty $3,795,000 on a huge 6,000 square-foot home in The Oaks neighborhood, where she is said to have moved in already with her daughter Suri.

The supposed reason for Holmes’ big move is because she wanted to be closer to Hollywood for her film career. Plus, a bigger relocation reason is due to The Giver star’s belief that raising Suri in California is far better than doing so in New York City.
TMZ also reported that before Holmes closed on the home, Suri and her bodyguard were seen going to a San Fernando Valley animal rescue shelter to adopt a Chihuahua. She apparently named the dog Maple, but had to wait to take him home until they were all moved in to the new house.
The relocation news comes just after the June announcement that Holmes bought a $4 million apartment in New York City. So it is not clear why she purchased the posh city pad just before her supposed permanent move back to the West Coast.

As for her work, since her split from Tom Cruise two years ago, Holmes’ career seems to have substantially picked up. However, the brunette stunner does not blame her dry spell on her marriage to Cruise.
“It’s the life of an actor,” Holmes told DuJour magazine recently. “We don’t really have a choice in the matter. You have dry spells, and then you have times when there is a lot of opportunity.”
