Nicki Minaj dancer bitten by snake during VMAs rehearsal

It looks like Nicki Minaj is planning a VMAs performance à la Britney Spears’ 2001 routine, where she danced around on stage with a snake while performing her hit “I’m a Slave for You.” Only Minaj’s performance isn’t going as smoothly.

During rehearsals on Sunday night, one of the snakes in the routine apparently bit a backup dancer.

According to TMZ, Minaj was, fittingly, performing her new single “Anaconda,” with the snake as part of the act for her upcoming VMAs opening.

The dancer, identified only as female, was rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment, TMZ reports. The snake, which is believed to be an anaconda, is not said to be poisonous but the bite is still dangerous as it easily spreads bacteria.

Though the snake was quickly taken away in a container after biting the performer, it’s unclear whether the same snake will be used in the performance.

Of course, the award show this Sunday is expected to be full of crazy surprises, aside from reptiles on stage. The VMAs are known for unpredictable antics. Last year, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke twerking together on stage made headlines for weeks, while the kiss between Madonna and Spears in 2003 became legendary.

Other performers expected to take the stage during the show include Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Beyoncé, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

Why we’re positive Nicki Minaj will out-perform Miley Cyrus at the VMAs >>

Everyone has been speculating about Minaj’s performance after the controversial music video for “Anaconda” was released this week. The Parent Television Council has already called for a TV-MA rating versus the usual TV-14, based on the butt-heavy footage in Minaj’s video. No doubt her on-stage routine will follow suit.

We wonder if, due to the incident yesterday, Minaj will be toning down the performance.

Representatives for Minaj and the VMAs, which is hosted by MTV, have yet to comment.
