Katy Perry decided to rock the all-denim look when she attended Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, channeling Britney Spears‘ look from the 28th Annual American Music Awards 13 years ago.
There were some very strange outfits on the night, and although Perry’s was definitely up there with the strange, we think she nailed her impression!

The singer had previously hinted that she had something up her sleeve after she watched the mom-of-two’s Woody Woodpecker impression Friday and tweeted about its brilliance. Spears then responded to Perry by challenging her to do her best impression.
The “Dark Horse” singer took that challenge to a whole new level, and she certainly managed to shock everyone with her VMAs wardrobe choice, a dress by Versace Couture. Perry even recruited her rumored boyfriend Riff Raff — the pair certainly seemed to be an item on the night as they packed on the PDA — to pay homage to ’90s pop culture sweethearts Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
So, is Spears impressed by Perry’s imitation? It seems so!
The “Work Bitch” singer took to Twitter to let Perry know she was impressed by her outfit, which Perry had previously described as the “result of my love for nostalgia.”

It’s just too bad that Perry didn’t borrow Spears’ actual dress because although she claims she’ll never repeat history by wearing it, she does still have it in her closet, MTV reports. Now wouldn’t that have been entertaining?
