BET exec apologizes for terrible joke about Blue Ivy’s hair

Hell hath no fury like a celeb mama scorned.

A BET exec apologized, and a producer has been suspended, after guest host Karreuche Tran made a really bad joke about Blue Ivy Carter‘s hair on the network’s countdown show 106 & Park.

The toddler made a very public appearance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, where she jammed out on Jay Z‘s lap during Beyoncé’s performance and then joined her famous fam on stage to help present Bey’s Video Vanguard Award.

The day after the awards show, 106 & Park featured a segment on the “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought at the VMAs.” Thought No. 6 was where things got ugly.

“I really did wake up like this — because my parents never comb my hair,” Tran quipped. She immediately went off script, blurting, “Sorry, Blue. I love you,” but the damage was done.

Twitter went totally cray, attacking Tran, who defended herself by tweeting that she didn’t write the joke.

“Now y’all know I LOVE me some Beyoncé and Blue Ivy!” she wrote, adding that the quip had resulted in death threats from Blue Ivy fans.

And BET‘s president of music programming and specials tweeted in Tran’s defense, apologizing for “putting (Tran) in that position.”

Hill also apologized for the joke, calling it “stupid” and “unthoughtful” and said the network had privately apologized to Jay and Bey.

“It was very bad judgment and we will serve you much better in the future,” Hill wrote.

BET’s official account retweeted Hill’s apology, and sources say an unnamed producer has been suspended for writing the joke.

It’s not the first time Blue Ivy’s hair has been the subject of a terrible joke. In June, an online petition that was supposedly started as a joke asked that someone comb the 2-year-old’s hair, sparking debate about Blue’s natural curls on The View. Ugh.
