In a report by TMZ, the comedian was said to be at a clinic in New York City for a minor endoscopic procedure when the complication occurred mid-operation. Shortly afterwards, she was taken to Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital and is reportedly in critical condition after her heart stopped beating. According to the report, a 911 call was placed at 9:39 a.m., with the caller detailing that there was someone experiencing “either cardiac or respiratory arrest.” Daughter Melissa and grandson Cooper are reportedly on their way to New York City to be by Rivers’ side.
Rivers was out and about promoting her new book Diary of a Mad Diva at New York’s Time & Life Building earlier this week. Despite the sudden news, a source tells E! News that Rivers was full of energy at the event. “She was so lively and sweet,” the source told the outlet. “She even let people take photos with her. She definitely had a lot of energy! She was cracking jokes about everyone from Jay Leno to Jackie O. She was as sharp as she’s ever been.”
The E! News source says that Rivers confessed she had to head out to a show after the book event, but made no mention of Thursday’s surgery. Rivers’ busy city schedule didn’t end there either, as she was set to perform at the Count Basie Theatre in New Jersey on Friday, Aug. 29. SheKnows will have more on this story as it develops.
