Ariana Grande explains fan meet-and-greet gone wrong

Ariana Grande upset some contest-winning fans earlier this week, but she says she has a good excuse.

Several fans won the chance to meet their idol backstage at the VMAs in an MTV-sponsored contest but said the experience left them crying tears of disappointment rather than tears of joy, according to Yahoo Music.

Grande’s teenage superfans Jen and Kelly made the trek from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Los Angeles for a meet-and-greet, but they were horrified by what they say was a too-brief encounter with Grande, who was allegedly very distant. The girls also say that Grande only posed for one selfie with each fan before exiting and ordered her security team to make sure all other pictures of her were deleted from the fans’ phones.

Both girls took to Twitter to express their dismay.

One fan’s father was so appalled by Grande, he was prompted to write a 2,700 word tirade about the experience on his blog. “She spent perhaps 15 seconds with each of them,” wrote WordPress user PrimalScreaming on Tuesday. “This is not an exaggeration. They took an approved photo with her and that was it. No small talk. No banter.”

But Grande, who has recently been romantically linked to rapper Big Sean, says that she exited quickly for a good reason, according to another loyal fan. The “One Less Problem” singer allegedly sent a direct message on Twitter that claims one of the contest-winners handed her a picture of her grandfather, who recently passed away. Grande said that she is still in mourning and the photo caused her to cry, so she rapidly exited before anyone could see her emotion. “My heart is still healing and it’s moments like that that make it real again that he’s gone… wasn’t expecting it and [it] hit me like a ton of bricks,” the DM said, according to Yahoo.

The encounter has caused most of Grande’s ever-faithful fans to come to her defense, while some are disappointed at her alleged behavior.
