An Oregon official told the New York Daily News that Helt was booked on a probation violation warrant at the Polk County Jail in The Dalles, Oregon. He posted the $2,500 bail and is expected to appear before a judge in about two weeks.
According to court records, Helt pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and criminal trespass after breaking into a man’s apartment several years ago. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation, and his arrest warrant was issued in November 2011 after Helt violated his probation.
Helt has been homeless in Los Angeles while trying to find work there as a model. He met Cyrus at Hollywood homeless shelter My Friend’s Place, which the singer has been helping raise money for.

Helt gained nationwide attention when he accompanied Cyrus to the VMAs and took the stage to accept her award for video of the year.
“I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now,” Helt said as Cyrus teared up in the audience. “I know this because I am one of these people.”
But the attention toward Helt soon took a turn, as news broke in the following days that he was wanted in his home state of Oregon. Now, Cyrus has said she will continue to help Helt as he faces the legal process.
“Jesse Helt turned himself in tonight to Polk County authorities to address his outstanding legal issues,” said Trevor Neilson, co-founder of Global Philanthropy Group, an organization that worked with Cyrus to select her charity. “Miley Cyrus will be assisting him with this process, and they both are committed to working to help the other 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness in America each year.”
