Miley Cyrus admits she and Liam Hemsworth are still in love

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s split may not have been a big surprise to anyone following the couple, but it looks like it is still affecting both Cyrus and Hemsworth.

According to ABC News, Miley Cyrus was speaking with Australian show, Sunday Night, and said Bangerz is about her breakup with her former fiancé, saying it’s “not only a breakup album, it’s a total story.”

The comment seems a little off since Cyrus was working on the album while she was still with Hemsworth, but she said songs like “Wrecking Ball” are “speaking to women and it’s not because I went through a breakup — I love Liam, Liam loves me and it’s about finding yourself. I had to set myself free.”

Cyrus was only 16 years old when she and Hemsworth began dating and, at some point, she apparently felt like she didn’t want to be in a couple anymore. The singer’s controversial performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards seemed to be the beginning of the end for the couple, but it looks like they were having problems long before that. Cyrus explained that she realized she needed to be alone for a while.

“I think it’s important for people to realize we all have our own lives and have to live them the way that’s going to make us the happiest,” she said.

Cyrus went on to talk about that VMA performance and she compared herself to some other important music icons in history. She explained that, “Everybody, at some point, had this kind of punk rock rebellion,” she said. “Elvis was coming out and doing the OG twerking… no one would have called Elvis a slut because he wasn’t a girl… the only thing I’m an example of is freedom.”
