Ready for a new season of Downton Abbey? You will be after you see this insanely juicy new trailer!
About that crazy water bottle blooper in the promo pics >>
It’s a little bogus that, for Brits, the premiere of Downton Abbey Season 5 is just around the corner, but for us ‘mericans, we’ve got to wait until after the new year. We promise to keep you apprised of any spoilers, don’t worry. In the meantime, though, we can also feast on this delectable new promo for the show’s return. Honestly, there are a lot of takeaways.

1. There will be an earthquake
OK. No. When Carson says, “I feel a shaking ‘neath the ground I stand on,” we don’t think he’s actually suggesting Downton could see damage from an earthquake. We do, however, think he’s suggesting a major shake-up in his life and the lives of everyone at Downton.

2. The women will continue to up the ante
Perhaps the first tease of that comes when we witness a scene of the Dowager Countess (Dame Maggie Smith) standing and the rest of the room following suit. Over the last seasons, we witnessed the ladies of the house taking more and more liberties. Will this finally be the season where the men step aside and the women take full control of Downton?
3. Lord Grantham will catch someone (Mary?) in the throws of an affair
It happens too quick for us to know for sure, but it sure looks as if Lord Grantham bursts into a room and catches footman, Jimmy, in the horizontal hula with someone. Who might it be? It sure looks like Mary’s curls, does it not? And that bedroom seems far too nice for a footman. But, what happened to Mary’s suitor, Lord Gillingham? The trailer suggests he’s still around. However, knowing Mary’s luck with men, he could be dead before the end of the first episode.
4. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire
OK, so we teased you with the natural disaster, but this time, we’re no joking. It looks as if there is about to be a serious blaze that could potentially do a number on Downton. In the video, we see good man, Branson, doing his best to carry his daughter and Mary’s son from the burning room. We can only hope they all make it out.

5. There’s a secret
We can’t help but scoff when Mrs. Hughes says, “I have a secret. A bad secret.” Isn’t there always some sort of secret? And, like the always devious Thomas points out, those secrets never remain secret for very long. So, what’s Mrs. Hughes hiding? Maybe she knows who was in Jimmy’s bed. Or perhaps she knows who started the fire.
Brits will start learning the truth to these teases when Downton Abbey Season 5 premieres on Sept. 21 on ITV. We Americans will have to either illegally download the hit period drama or wait for its official U.S. premiere on PBS some time in early 2015. Pfft!
