TBS has decided to jump off the CeeLo Green bandwagon — along with pretty much everyone else — after a rape accusation against Green, followed by a rant where he defined what he thinks rape is.
CeeLo Green has a messed-up definition of rape >>
According to NBC News, the network announced on Tuesday, Sept. 2 that they have canceled Green’s show, The Good Life.
On Friday, Green was sentenced to three years probation after he pleaded no contest to drugging a woman who said she woke up naked in his bed with no memory of the night. Prosecutors chose not to prosecute Green for the actual rape, due to lack of evidence, but went ahead with the drug charge. He was also sentenced to 360 hours of community service and 52 AA or NA meetings.
Over the weekend, Green responded to critics on Twitter, but made things much, much worse. The singer’s rant included comments that rape doesn’t count if the person isn’t awake.
BuzzFeed screen-captured numerous tweets from the weekend, including one that said, “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously. People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”
Why we think CeeLo Green deserved jail time >>
Green’s tweets (as well as his Twitter account) have since been deleted, but he later released a statement about what he says he meant.
“Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom!” he said. “Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context. I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.”
