Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally tied the knot last weekend, after being together for nearly 10 years. But Jolie was missing a big part of herself — her mother.

Jolie’s mom, Marcheline Bertrand, died at the age of 56 in 2007 after a long fight with ovarian cancer. Jolie, like most women, felt the loss of not having her mother at her wedding and did what she could to honor her.
“Brad had a dedication to Marcheline engraved inside the chapel where we stood,” Jolie told People.
The couple was standing on a stone that was dedicated to her mother when they said their I dos. Jolie and her brother, James Haven, also honored their mother in another way.
“I also wore a little flower ring that was hers, and Jamie wore an angel pin from her jewelry box,” Jolie said.
Jolie has talked about her love for her mother in the past, which even caused a rift between her and her father, Jon Voight. Bertrand and Jolie were close and the actress is obviously still feeling the loss.
“There are no words to express what an amazing woman and mother she was,” she said, adding that her mother is responsible for her philanthropic personality. “She believed nothing would mean anything if you didn’t lead a life that was of use to others,” Jolie said.

Jolie and Pitt also honored their children at their wedding, letting them plan most of it. Jolie’s dress was also covered in their art, proving that the couple’s life is now all about family.
