Carson Daly‘s life has been affected by cancer numerous times — and he is ready to fight back. Daly’s father died from bladder cancer when he was only 5 years old and he is doing what he can to stand up to the disease.

“I’m sick of it affecting my family and other families,” Daly told People. “Enough is enough, and let’s take a stand.”

Daly’s mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1998 and ended up winning her battle against the disease. Daly is now a father of three and doesn’t want his children to worry about losing their parents like he has.

“It really hits home when you have your own young family who are going to be a part of those staggering numbers, unfortunately,” he said. “This cancer fight is for my kids and their generation.”

The Voice host has seen how the disease affects people and wants to bring awareness to the possibilities of finding a cure. He has been involved with Stand Up To Cancer for years, which is an organization that is doing research in the hope of finding a cure. He seems to understand how important his celebrity status can be in bringing that goal to the masses. He explained, “Hollywood can get a bad rap, but this really is a great portrait of what this town can do. It’s titans of various industries coming together to make a dent.”

The next Stand Up To Cancer telethon will be on the four major networks, as well as others, coming up on Sept. 5. Daly is hoping the telethon will be one step closer to finding a cure.

“Cancer is a very important part of my family as it is many people’s,” he explained. “We’ve made a lot of progress, but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
