Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace join The View as co-hosts

The search for The View co-hosts is over. Deadline confirmed today that Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace will fill the two vacant slots for the upcoming Season 18.

Returning co-host, Rosie O’Donnell, and show veteran, Whoopi Goldberg, will round out the co-hosts for the new season, which premieres Sept. 15.

“These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences. Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table,” said show executive producer, Bill Wolff, in a statement. “This mix of smart, vibrant and energetic women is unlike anything else on daytime television.”

Perez and Wallace are taking the spots of Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, both of whom exited the show last month.

Wallace served as White House communications director during George W. Bush’s presidency. Following that position, she was a senior adviser during John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. Wallace already filled in as co-host for The View a few times this year and has been a front-runner since news of McCarthy and Shepherd’s departures.

“I am honored to join the tradition of compelling conversations that has been the signature of The View for the better part of two decades,” Wallace said. “I have watched The View for many years and now to be seated alongside three women that I have admired is both humbling and incredibly exciting.”

We wonder if the clearly conservative Wallace will clash with the outspoken and more liberal O’Donnell, who previously left the show following a heated argument with former co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Oscar-nominated Perez, on the other hand, will be juggling her co-hosting duties with her new role in the upcoming Broadway production of Larry David’s Fish In The Dark, according to Deadline. Perez has also previously filled in as a guest co-host prior to landing this permanent slot.

“I am beyond thrilled, honored and completely surprised that I’ve been asked to join The View,” Perez said. “Knowing that I’ll be in the company of Whoopi, Rosie and Nicolle, three very smart and engaging women that I have an immense amount of respect for, makes it even more unbelievable. The opportunity to connect with our nation’s audience on a daily basis… icing on the cake! Very happy.”

Hopefully, the ladies will all carry this positive energy into the new season.
