We’re closing in on True Detective heading into production for its second season, and another new face is in talks to join the team.
Director Justin Lin is in discussion to helm several episodes for the second season of the Emmy-nominated drama. Cary Fukunaga’s vision guided every episode of the first year of True Detective; however, Lin would only sign on for a few, which leaves room for another player to have some creative input on this year’s look.
Colin Farrell on True Detective? The Season 2 rumors heat up >>
We’re most familiar with Lin from his work in the Fast and the Furious franchise, where he’s directed every installment since the third movie, Tokyo Drift. He’s also attached to helm the next movie in the Jason Bourne franchise now that Jeremy Renner has taken over the title role from Matt Damon, but he’s no stranger to television. There are several quality episodes of Community under Lin’s belt, including the wildly popular Season 1 finale “Modern Warfare.”
Is Jessica Chastain going to be on True Detective? >>
Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell are also all still in talks to take on roles this year, and though we’ve expressed disappointment that there won’t be more diversity this year, we’re cheered by the other piece of news coming out of True Detective speculation: At least one of the lead roles this season will be played by a woman.
While no official information has been released about casting just yet, rumor has it that the two candidates being most closely considered right now are Rachel McAdams and Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss. It’d be an interesting career move for McAdams, who’s generally tended to stick to lighter romantic drama or comedy fare, but it’d be a great opportunity for her to demonstrate that she can also go dark and gritty. With Mad Men about to wrap up its run, though, and after a stellar turn in the dark series Top of the Lake, we’re not ready to count Moss out of the running just yet.
