G.R.L. singer Simone Battle is dead at 25

G.R.L. singer and former The X Factor contestant Simone Battle has died at the age of 25.

The singer was found dead at her home in Los Angeles, California, on Friday morning, the Daily Mail reports. It was the “Ugly Heart” hit maker’s father, Anthony E. Battle, who apparently found her.

The star’s cause of death has yet to be revealed and is still under investigation, but law enforcement sources have told TMZ it was an apparent suicide.

Fans are shocked and saddened at the news of Battle’s death, and her management has released a statement about it.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L.,” her management firm Reign Deer Entertainment told Us Weekly in a statement. “Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.”

Battle first started singing professionally after her breakout on The X Factor U.S. in 2011.

She made it to the top 17 and was mentored by judge Simon Cowell. She then went on to join the girl group G.R.L. with fellow members Emmalyn Estrada, Lauren Bennett, Paula Van Oppen and Natasha Slayton.

The members of G.R.L. expressed their deep sadness about Battle’s death with a touching tribute on their Twitter account.
