Joan Rivers’ funeral was the showbiz affair she had wanted

Comedian Joan Rivers was laid to rest on Sunday at a funeral in New York City, New York’s Temple Emanu-El on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Us Weekly reports.

The star died on Thursday, Sept. 4, after suffering complications from a minor throat surgery, and celebs poured out to pay their final respects to Rivers in a funeral that was everything she had wanted according to her 2012 memoir I Hate Everyone…Starting With Me.

The sharp-tongued comedian’s send-off was a “showbiz affair with lights, cameras, and action.” Rivers previously said in her memoir just what she wanted at her funeral, saying, “I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene! I want it to be Hollywood all the way.”

She also requested there should be no “rabbi rambling on,” and that she wanted, “Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents.”

Well, it looks as though she got what she wanted because there were plenty of famous faces who showed up to pay their respects to the late star. Among those in attendance were Sue Simmons, Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana and Bill Rancic, Kristin Chenoweth, Sally Jesse Raphael, Chuck Scarborough, Howard Stern, Kathy Griffin, Andy Cohen, Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rosie O’Donnell, Jeff Ross, Mario Cantone, Donald and Melania Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Judge Judy Sheindlin, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera and Barbara Walters, among many more including spectators and around 100 members of the media.

The Fashion Police star’s friend Cindy Adams shed some light on Rivers’ funeral arrangements as she wrote for Page Six, “It starts with the Gay Men’s choir show tunes, the rabbi’s opening prayer, Audra McDonald singing, Debra Norville (sic) reminiscing. Then me, Melissa, Hugh Jackman. A closing prayer then an NYPD cadre and four horseback riders who, I was told, did not come cheap.”

When the service was over, bagpipers came out of the temple and played several songs, including “New York, New York,” as guests made their exit, USA Today reports.

Rivers was loved by many and she will be truly missed.
