We all have our beloved CW shows. Programs like One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries have become part of our lives over the years, but it hasn’t always been easy to get our male counterparts to enjoy the stories along with us. The Flash joins the network’s fall lineup and is about to change that.

The Flash has everything a man could want in a TV show. Action, special effects, superheroes, a bromance (with fellow CW character, Arrow) and just a touch of comic book nerd flair make this show undoubtedly guy-approved.
Jesse L. Martin plays Detective Joe West, who is Barry Allen’s foster father of sorts, and admits that there is so much action going on, he’s worried for both his character and himself. “It’s not every day you find out your kid is the fastest man alive,” Martin, said at PaleyFest earlier this week. “Not to mention that there’s a whole bunch of other people in this world all of the sudden who can do either really amazing things to help humanity or do really horrible things to hurt humanity. And the more I find out, I’m like ‘Oh, my God, how am I gonna make it? I’m gonna have a stroke before the show ends!'”

The show’s producers also revealed at PaleyFest that everyone into the original DC comic books will have plenty to dig their nails into, including the idea of time travel. “I think that if you’re a fan of the comic book, you obviously know that time travel is a big part of The Flash‘s world, so there’s obviously hints that Harrison Wells has access to the future,” said executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg. It’s a concept that is played with further down the line in the season. Kreisberg also admitted that there will be nuggets of hidden references to the comics for all of the DC fanboys (and girls). “It was one of the best decisions that we made on the hour pilot… within 30 seconds you knew you were watching a DC comic’s show,” said Kreisberg.
Not to worry, though; The Flash still has all the hallmarks of the great CW shows we’ve come to know and love. There are studly actors (helloooo, Grant Gustin’s abs!), gorgeous actresses and, of course, a juicy love triangle. “I always say that these shows have to work for both me and my wife,” said Kreisberg. “And my wife could give a rip about comic books, but she loves Arrow and she likes them because of the characters. It has to be about the characters and it has to be about the relationships. The DC comics part is just the icing on the cake.”
So, grab your man and a bowl of popcorn and set a date for The Flash‘s premiere, Tuesday, Oct. 7 on The CW. Neither one of you will be disappointed.
