Jennifer Garner may be an actress, but being a mom comes first and she is working hard at ensuring that she protects her children as much as she can from the realm of social media.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, the Dallas Buyers Club actress shared the details on some of her parenting strategies and how closely she monitors the use of social media when it comes to her three children, Violet Affleck, 8, Samuel Garner Affleck, 2, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck, 5, who she shares with her husband Ben Affleck.

Despite the fact that Garner’s children are very young now, they won’t be allowed to have cell phones for a long time and it’s a point that the 13 Going on 30 star feels strongly about.

Not for a long time,” Garner revealed to the site. “They don’t need it. Until I really feel the need, that’s where I’m strict. But I don’t know — I still have an 8-year-old, so I just know that I’m a long way from feeling like that’s something we need in our lives.”

In such a technology-driven age, kids are becoming consumed by social media from a young age, but not Garner’s children.

“I don’t let my kids on a computer without me right there,” the actress explains. “You have to be on top of it because it would take so little for them to see something that could be an image that sticks in their head they don’t want to see. But… I’m five minutes from my child being at a friend’s house and having access to a computer that I can’t control. So it’s about having the conversations… I don’t know… I’m figuring it out. I am not an expert in this… at all… whatsoever, but it seems to me, in the way I’m approaching it, is that it’s about just talking often and early.”

Tell us what you think: Should more moms be monitoring their children’s use of the internet, and how they are using social media more strictly?
