Late-night television is seeing a new generation stepping up with a revitalized wave of programming, thanks mostly to Jimmy Fallon’s fun and quirky personality on The Tonight Show.

But now that James Corden is joining the game, things could get interesting.
Today, Corden was officially confirmed as the new host of The Late Late Show, beginning in 2015, and we think he definitely has what it takes to hack it with the likes of Fallon.
“I can’t describe how thrilled and honored I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson,” Corden said in a statement. “To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America’s No. 1 network is hugely exciting. I can’t wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy.”

Though he’s relatively unknown in the United States, aside from those amazing few episodes of Doctor Who back in the day, he is a big star in the U.K. and a Tony-winning Broadway actor.
Corden is definitely set to make a name for himself in the U.S. market before the end of the year in the film world. Aside from nabbing a role in Begin Again, alongside Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley, Corden will appear in the much-anticipated December film, Into the Woods, which also stars Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick.
“James Corden is a rare entertainment force who combines irresistible charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent,” CBS Entertainment president, Nina Tassler, said in a statement.

Right now, Fallon is really monopolizing the late-night world. Don’t get us wrong; we love him and we love seeing all the crazy stunts he’s been pulling with celebrities. He will always hold a special place in our late-night hearts. Still, there’s a good chance Corden could up the game with his own crazy take on dishing with celebs.
Pair Corden’s entrance with Stephen Colbert‘s previously announced takeover of the Late Show in 2015 and the late-night talk show world is definitely getting a makeover.
Current host, Craig Ferguson, will wrap up his hosting duties in December. Corden will take over when the show returns in 2015. Producers and locations have yet to be announced.
