Can Tom Hiddleston hack it as Hank Williams? (VIDEO)

Tom Hiddleston is ready for his next role and is doing everything he can to get into character. Hiddleston is taking on Hank Williams in the upcoming film, I Saw The Light.

Thor‘s Tom Hiddleston proves that he’s hot and humble >>

Hiddleston surprised fans in Michigan over the weekend by performing at the Wheatland Music Festival — in character as the legendary singer. According to the Huffington Post, the Brit played Williams’ hits, “Move It On Over” and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.”

It was announced back in January that the Thor star was selected to play Williams in the biopic and the actor has been working to get into character ever since. Because he will be singing and playing as Williams, it looks like Hiddleston is working to perfect his music, as well as his character.

But not everyone is happy with the casting choice. Hank Williams III took to Facebook to share his disappointment in Hiddleston’s singing.

“Here is how you do it TOM ,You got no Moan Or SOul In your voice,” he wrote (along with a video of himself singing his grandfather’s music), adding that he is not against the movie, just the casting choice.

So, who would he like to play his famous granddad? Matthew McConaughey.

“Matthew McConaughey would be a good person for this role because he has played many roles as a Southern man. And he is from the South. And that is something no amount of money or acting classes can put into a role,” he told Fox News. “The other reason I thought Matthew would be a good fit for the role is because he has a natural arrogance, aka fire, that is needed for this role. Hank Sr. was very very sure of himself and basically very cocky. And Matthew always brings that fire to the table in every role he [plays].”

I Saw The Light will follow Williams through his life and will document his rise to fame and his young death. Williams died more than 60 years ago, in 1953, at the age of only 29 from heart failure.

A fan caught Hiddleston on camera at the Michigan festival, and from the sound of it, he is well on his way to being a believable Hank Williams.
