George Clooney to be honored at the Golden Globes

It has been a really good year for George Clooney and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Not only is he preparing to tie the knot to gorgeous lawyer, Amal Alamuddin, in the next couple weeks, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HPFA) announced on Monday that Clooney would be honored at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Theo Kingma, president of the HFPA, said, “The HPFA is honored to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera.”

The award honors those in the entertainment industry who have had an incredible impact on the world of entertainment and beyond. As a writer, director, producer and actor, Clooney definitely fits the bill.

Aside from winning three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards for his myriad of successful films, Clooney is also known for his humanitarian work, like his powerful documentary, AJourney to Darfur, which detailed the conflict in the region and urged help and support. He also produced the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon, which raised more than $66 million, and he was part of the team that launched the “Satellite Sentinel Project,” which was an effort to monitor human rights violations in Sudan.

Clooney is joining prestigious company. Last year, the Cecil B. DeMille award was given to Woody Allen. Previous recipients include Robin Williams, Harrison Ford, Al Pacino, Steven Spielberg and Barbra Streisand.

We still have a while before actually getting to see Clooney accept the honor. The 72nd Golden Globes air live on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 on NBC

Clooney, who most recently appeared in Gravity and The Monuments Men, has yet to comment on the award. No doubt because he’s planning his wedding, which is expected to take place before the end of this month.
