From the outside looking in, it appears Beyoncé and Jay Z have had an emotional roller coaster ride of a summer. But was all of the media attention carefully orchestrated to gain publicity for their joint tour?
Little girl super-bummed president is not Beyoncé >>
The couple’s On The Run tour came to a conclusion last weekend in Paris and, by the way Bey Z were acting, you would never have guessed that their marriage had been the subject of media scrutiny and divorce rumors that started a couple months before they hit the road in June. In fact, Beyoncé and Jay Z gushed about each other and got seriously emotional about ending their run in Paris, where they say their whole little family got started.
“We love Paris. It’s special to us because we got engaged here and this is where baby Blue was conceived,” Jay Z said while on stage on Saturday night, according to the Associated Press via ABC News.
“I’m your biggest fan, I love you,” Beyoncé tearfully said to her husband. “Greatest entertainer in the world. I love her. She’s my wife,” responded Jay Z.
Doesn’t exactly sound like the exchange of a couple who has recently been through the ringer of alleged marital woes. In just a few short months, rumors swirled that Jay Z had stepped out on his bride and her family had gotten involved. We heard that Beyoncé was getting advice from gal-pal, Gwyneth Paltrow, on how to “consciously uncouple” and sources said that Beyoncé and Jay Z were even sometimes staying in different rooms while on tour.
If you look a little closer at the evidence, the drama starts to look more and more like a well thought-out plan to keep Beyoncé and Jay Z in the spotlight. The infamous brawl between Jay Z and Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, in an elevator after the Met Gala was perfectly timed to get buzz going right before the On The Road tour began. Beyoncé, herself, fueled rumors when she very deliberately changed song lyrics during a performance that clearly accused Jay Z of cheating. There’s also the fact that neither of the two has ever come forward and just said their marriage is fine.
The latest stunt occurred last week when Jay Z reportedly also changed lyrics on stage to insinuate that Beyoncé is pregnant with another child, but those rumors were quickly put to rest on Saturday when both of them were witnessed drinking Champagne after the show, according to ABC News.
And then there’s Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, who himself alleges that the Solange elevator brawl and all of the other hijinks are part of a tactic called the “Jedi mind trick.” “A Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of times,” Knowles said in a radio interview in August. “All I know is that everyone is talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent.”
Bottom line is, the world hasn’t stopped talking about Beyoncé and Jay Z for even a second since reports initially surfaced that their marriage was on the rocks. Looks like Beyoncé and Jay Z might be publicity geniuses.
