The choice of Ben Affleck as the newest Batman left some scratching their heads. But it turns out, the actor may have more in common with the caped crusader than anyone ever knew.

Ben Affleck as Batman: Adam West is feeling hopeful >>

Affleck is currently filming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and he said he found himself relating to Batman more than he realized before accepting the role.

“For me, anger is so deeply buried and contained,” Affleck told the Sunday Times, “that when it does kind of come out, it comes out in stronger bursts.”

The actor explained that, like Batman, he is normally a happy guy, but every once in a while, people will see his other side. He said, I tend to be respectful, polite, get along, put up with, put up with, put up with…” Affleck said of his anger. “Then, when it finally emerges, it’s not something I have a ton of control over.

“I should sit down and say, ‘Listen, I just want to let you know what happened there wasn’t okay,’ instead of going, ‘Let it go, let it go, let it go… ah, that’s not a big deal,’ until finally you just pop!”

Affleck will next be seen in Gone Girl as a husband whose wife disappears. But he said he is hoping playing the iconic superhero will help open up opportunities for another of his passions — directing.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25, 2016.
