Taylor Swift has made zero attempts at masking her Kendrick Lamar fandom and it looks like the two musicians have formed a mutual admiration society.
Swift danced her little pants off when Lamar took the stage at this year’s Grammys and she sung the rapper’s praises in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, admitting that she listens to his song, “Backseat Freestyle,” when she wants to go from “feeling victimized to feeling awesome,” according to EntertainmentTonight. “I know every word,” she said.
“I appreciate Taylor Swift for not only supporting my music, but just the hip-hop culture,” Lamar told the Associated Press via ET.

Swift and Lamar may come from opposite ends of the music spectrum, but Lamar made it clear that he believes music is the great equalizer and differences shouldn’t matter. “There’s really no gap, it’s music and it feels good,” he said. “Some people always try to lock it down and categorize it for one particular listener. But it moves all, even people from other genres.”
The love from Lamar is coming at a great time for Swift, who’s gotten a lot of press as of late regarding a mega feud with a fellow female pop star, rumored, but not confirmed, to be Katy Perry. “For years I was never sure if we were friends or not,” Swift told Rolling Stone of the songstress she refused to name. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’ [Then last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy!”
For the most part, it seems Lamar is happy to focus on his craft, stay out of drama and let music be his guide. He even spoke out in defense of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis this year, after there was controversy about what category the duo’s sound fell into at the Grammys and whether they should have taken home as many awards as they did. “It’s other people’s opinions. Whatever he put his heart out to do, you know he raps and people receive it as that — it’s just opinions,” Lamar said of Macklemore to MTV. “He just needs to do him. I wouldn’t listen to what nobody got to say.”
